Currently there are only 33 mandolin reviews at this website. It would be a great project for us to try to increase that number. If each of us members were to write a review of our current mandolin, that would greatly help with those numbers. Any takers? If you modified a mandolin, please indicate what was done and whether there was a difference noticed. Enter the review by clicking on the REVIEW tab and Submit a Review.

I have a hard time trusting any of the reviews here. When I see a $299 Morgan Monroe getting 10's across the board, that tells me something about the reviewer. After all, Morgan Monroe's top instruments are average mandolins at best and were talking about one of the bottom of the line instruments. Can we really have any trust in these reviews.

Folks love their mandolins. What happens is when you have more than one review on an instrument, you hope that you can get some sort of general appreciation regarding the quality of an instrument.
This is OK in the big scheme of things in my opinion. This is not a scientific survey.
Sometimes reading the individual comments can help. You can also check the reviewer's personal homepage and see how many mandolins that person owns and what the basis for their rating is.
If you really want a scientific survey and correlate the value of the mandolin to how much enjoyment/pleasure/appreciation for quality there is, then this is not the survey to take. Nor are the individual comments on the forum worth anything.
However, if you are interested in individuals within a community responding and rating their own mandolins and having an appreciation for what they are playing, then this is the forum to be reading and posting to.

I like this idea. This site rocks its just kinda lacking in active participants and the more people get involved the more people will be drawn to it and follow suit i think. I did a review of my rediculous awesome 104-year-old banjo-mandolin from Vega just cause I'm so smitten with it but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do a reveiw of my slighly less-awesome mandolin - I've got plenty to say about it. I dig your spirit man, I'm with you. keep it up!

I think its a given that some people are gonna be bias about their baby, but I don't see anything wrong with that cause its pretty easy to dissern between the people who are real analytical about their instrument and those who just wanna express their love and affection - pluss it never hurts to get some basic info on a model you may not have heard of. On the other hand, I totaly see your point about unqualified appraisals. maby as a rule of thumb we aught to take price listings with a grain of salt.
