Has anybody tried the monel (nickel alloy) strings from Martin? I put a set on my F-4 and like them. Wondering about other's experiences, perceptions, thoughts.

I have a student that likes them a lot. They are really good for the money IMHO.

With light bronze strings, my F4 had a weird metallic ping coming from the E string at the bridge saddle. I thought that mediums (.001" thicker E string) might fix that, and it did. String tension on a century old instrument worries me, and monel is supposed to have less tension than bronze, so I used those. The sound is less bright to me, which suits the character of an old F4 well in my mind. I have another set (had to have my local store order them as they did not keep them in stock), and was thinking of putting them on a newer F5. Not sure if that will be as successful.

In general they seem to balance out the volume differences in the string courses to my old ears.
