Hi, I’m a banjo player and, on a good night, I can pull off a pretty fast version (in “banjo time”, I call it 220-240 bpm) Dueling Banjos, but I am one of those people who mostly just practices, and doesn't play out. How challenging is it for a mando player to cover the guitar part, including the tune? Would it be easier for him if I played the banjo part in A? I know a guy who plays mando, but I dont want to sound clueless when I approach him. Maybe we need a guitar player to cover the bottom with chords, so it doesn't sound too thin, but thats another matter.

So I guess my question is, does the mando fretboard layout pretty well for the tune, and what would be the easiest key for it, on mando? I’ve played it “perfect” with a couple of different guitars who came to the house and we laugh like hell when its over, like we landed a triple jump at the Olympics, so I thought maybe adding a mando would help me get out of the house. No bluegrass jams around here.

That is one tune that I have never attempted. Mando just never seemed right in that tune, but I'm sure someone else, more skilled than I, has attempted it.

That said, I would think it should be pretty straightforward in A. (And remember, most mando players don't capo, so...)

I played it years ago with a banjo playing friend and I don’t recall it being too tough to play in G.
