I didn't like my Loar much after a few months I was ready to sell it. Then I started experimenting. I put on a CA bridge, went to nickel strings, shaved down the tone bars about 50% and started using a Blue Chip pick. Now I can say this thing honks!! Not as loud as a $4k mando, but it sure has the tone of one.
