New Loar 520 owner

From Myra54 on 2/8/2019 4:06:12 PM

Hello does anyone ever visit here anymore? I’m a new owner and a beginner! Just received my Loar Mandolin wed tuned it up and one of the e strings broke. Went to a music store in town and bought a replacement restrung it and the e strings sound great now. My question is the A strings sound not right to me! My Snark tuner and my Sound Corset on iPhone says it’s in tune! I also have to tune them all the time and the other strings pretty much stay in tune. I’m hoping for insight!

thanks Myra

Hi there. I had the same problem with my A string until I setup the bridge in Rob Moldrum's Mandolin Setup book:
Mandolin Set-up E-Book by Rob Meldrum
Just send an email to rob.meldrum@gmail.com with "mandolin setup" in the subject line and I will email you a copy for free (free to all mandolin hangout members).

Thanks for replying is it pretty straight forward I’m very new to mandolins and terrified I’ll make it worse lol ! I did change a string though and it’s working! In fact the e string I changed has not gone out of tune yet! I’ll send an email ,I have found a luthier about 45 minutes away if I need one.the a strings sound off and thwaney if that makes sense! Thankyou!
