english newbie question

hi everyone,

i know this is another newbie quiestion but im hoping you can help me with some advice and opinions.

ive been offered the choice of either an ozark 2073 or a kentucky Km-174, now ive no idea about mandolins other than i love the sound, so this will be my first(which ever i end up been given) as for the style of music, well i like gypsy swing and blues but i do like classical and some bluegrass as well so im hoping to be able to try all of those styles at some point in the future.

now my newbie question is which one would you pick and why please.

oh and one more, if i cant find a local teacher(grimsby / louth area of lincolnshire) could you recommend and good tutor books please.

	Rob says: 5/30/2011 5:28:27 AM Hi Nick, I don't think that what style you want to play going forward makes much difference now because if you take to the instrument well, you will soon want to upgrade. The Ozark is an f hole model and the Kentucky an oval hole, the Ozark may be a bit brighter and the Kentucky a bit more mellow but this is a gross simplification. Depending on budget, my personal choice as a starter instrument would be the Kentucky, I think it is a bit more expensive but playability is paramount when learning so if you are sure that these are your choices then go for the best set up best feeling one and try to get a more experienced player to help. You may be able to enlist help/teacher via the UK Bluegrass website - ukbluegrass.com/ Good Luck
