If the mandolin has F holes the little darts on the edges of the F holes should be the approximate area for the bridge. You can also measure the distance from the nut to the 12th fret and double that measurement. The final adjustment is done by getting an octave higher note of the open string notes when fretted on the 12th fret. The 12th fret harmonic should also be the same note. Sharp = the bridge is too close to the nut. Flat = the bridge is too far from the nut. There are lots of good YouTube videos showing the process.
