I had a revival with the mandolin after the summer. Being away at the bluegrass festival without mandolin woke me up somehow. Now I'm just coming home from Ireland and have had another inspiration boost for playing the mandolin. So I'm going to work on some new tunes and to play breaks with the mandolin on some songs I've been working on with the guitar.

I've been arranging carols for mando like "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy" & "The Carol of The Bells". Coming back from Ireland.... I take it you're playing Celtic music too?

Apart from bluegrass and oldtimey stuff I only play Irish music on the mandolin.. I leave the rest from the celtic traditions for the concertina (which I also play Irish music on but I'm still in the early stages with it).

Are concertinas expensive? They always make me think of pirates.... I've play some Irish on mandolin and love Scottish airs. Aside from that I also enjoy gypsy jazz tunes.

Oh yes, if you want one that you don't have to fight against, they are way expensive. But a good concertina is absolutely worth the money. Scottish airs are absolutely beautiful on the concertina by the way.
