What up Woadies!

Monday, January 3, 2011

Howdy folks, Howdy.

That, in case you weren't aware is actually a question though perhaps a rhetorical one.  I didn't realize that until I was in Arkansas one day and said "Howdy" to a feller and he replied "Fine".

So I just got a new bridge on my mandolin.  It's a solid piece of mahogany that my father Red Henry built.  My maple bridge was getting a little low because of the winter, and he put that one on there and I am tickled with what it has done for the sound and how rich and enjoyable the instrument is to play.  You can order one at murphymethod.com

I am happy about the upcoming release of The Archetones debut album - Paradox of Youth.  It is about to be mastered and should be available in the coming months.  Here is a preview:

I am also happy about a new upcoming full band album with my dad, Red Henry.  We have been performing as Red and Chris and Their All-Star Band and this will be our second release.  It will be the first full band Red and Chris project.  We'll be recording with Red's uncle John Hedgecoth (former bluegrass boy) and my sister Casey, and our good friend Mike Bub.  This will be in the middle of February for an early Spring release on the Arrandem label.

I have been producing a lot of recordings in the Northern Virginia area recently.  A lot of urban music, but some acoustic music here and there too.  The next project I've got coming up is the second full band album with keyboardist Luke Johnson.  He is a very talented and diverse composer, piano/keyboard player, and singer.  We both grew up in Frederick County, VA and have been good friends for almost 20 years.  His first album, which features my mandolin picking on a couple of tracks (His Mark, and Optimistic) is available here.

I'm looking forward to moving back to Nashville at the end of January and putting together a new group to play with.  I'm lucky to have a lot of great friends there who are some of the world's best musicians.

So drop me a line at cbhenry@visuallink.com if you are looking for lessons (Skype, Nashville, VA, or maybe I can come your way), or if you are looking for help producing or engineering recordings.  I have a mobile setup that I can bring to your location and we can make a great sounding album in your living room.  Many examples of production available online for those interested, just give me a shout 615.495.6835.  I am also looking to book the Red and Chris band, and also my own solo show at good venues including house concerts and churches.

Beyond that, I am on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/defgrass.

Chris

Raised on bluegrass music. I am now a freelance picker, grinner, producer, engineer, performer, teacher, learner, and enthusiast. I teach using the Murphy Method, which is a by-ear system of instruction my mom developed when she saw and heard her students weren't sounding so well using tablature. I am interested in helping make recordings, getting my bands booked for your venues (house concerts and churches are always good) and helping folks figure things out on stringed instruments. I have a Bill Monroe style mandolin instructional DVD available at murphymethod.com
